Holy Week 2017 — Through Death to Life Series Overview

Holy Friday/Good Friday, Year A

Holy Week: Through Death to Life Series On Good Friday, or Holy Friday as it is known in nearly every non-English-speaking culture, we witness the execution of Jesus, recognize our ongoing complicity with the powers of death, and are called to enter the Great Silence of all creation in response to the death of its God and Maker.

Formation groups this week have a different goal than during the previous weeks of Lent. Previous weeks sought to inculcate habits of discipleship based on the baptismal vows. They were focused on behavior and behavioral change. During Holy Week, the focus is abiding together before God in Scripture and prayer, day after day, Monday through Friday.

Scott Hughes and Melanie Gordon have developed small-group or family devotional guides for each day of this week. Even if group members are using these personally or with their families, find time in each day to gather your group in person or online to read the reading aloud, reflect on the theme for the day, and pray for what arises as you do. Your meeting times need do no more than this. View the devotional guide »
