Sorrow for the People of Norway

God,
We come,
Hearts in deep ache and sorrow
Over lives derailed
By the actions of an angry gunman.

Have mercy, Lord,
Upon bereft families and injured children.
Upon sight-seared young survivors
Still trembling
From memories of running or swimming for safety.
And upon any whose mind's eye yet holds the image of those who ran in vain.

God,
Soothe the aching hearts of people
So known for peace
And Peace Prize
As they confront
This shudder-shock of terror.

Remind us to support
Our brothers and sisters
In prayer
As the world's leaders
Continue
To work together
For a more just world,

Where parents need not be afraid
To send their children to camp. Amen.
