Not Another Tragedy
Not another tragedy,
leading because bleeding,
stunning!
Not another day for weeping
that seems to stop
no one
from watching,
transfixed by the mystery
of sudden death.
Not another tragedy.
This one.
Here.
Now.
No pattern to explain
this violence,
this loss,
can answer it.
No investigation suffices
in this moment
nor can ever satisfy.
Our boldest "Why?" and "How?"
are not enough.
It is what it is
for each of us
affected.
And in what comes.
It hurts
the way it hurts
for each:
like nothing else.
Rachel weeps for her children
not again
but here
and now.
Respect her weeping.
Lord, have mercy.
