대강절 기도

평화의 주님, 예수가 태어난 날 천상의 무리가 “하늘에는 영광, 땅에는 평화”를 노래하고 기뻐했음을 기억합니다. 주님은 항상 우리에게 평화의 삶을 살도록 인도하지만, 우리는 인생 여정에서 길을 잃고 평화를 찾지 못할 때가 많았음을 고백합니다. 분쟁과 미음의 벽을 허무시러 오시는 주님, 이 대강절에 우리와 함께하셔서 우리의 세상과 교회와 가정에 화평과 화해를 허락하소서. 우리가 평화의 일꾼으로 살게 하소서. 우리를 평화의 도구로 삼으셔서 우리가 이 세상을 더 조화롭고, 균형 있게 만드는데 협조할 수 있도록 인도하소서. 우리를 통해 더 좋은 세상이 될 수 있도록 우리의 마음과 행동을 인도하소서. 평화의 왕이신 예수 그리스도 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

Today we celebrate the second Sunday in Advent. I extend God’s love and welcome to all of you in this place. Let us worship, waiting for Jesus the Lord who comes to our world as peace.

ADVENT PRAYER

God of Peace, we remember that on the night Jesus was born, the angels in heaven rejoiced and sang, “Glory in the highest, peace on earth!” You always guide us to a life of peace, but we confess that we have strayed from your way. We often get lost in our life’s journey and lose track of your peace. Lord, you come to break down the walls of hostility and hatred. Be with us in this season of Advent and help us attain peace and reconciliation at home, in the church, and in the world. Inspire us to live as peacemakers. May we as instruments of your peace help our world to be more harmonious and balanced. May our world become a better place to live through what we do and share. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, the prince of peace. Amen.

Rev. Dr. Hwa-Young Chong is an elder in the United Methodist Church. She serves as district superintendent of the Prairie North District of the Northern Illinois Conference. Dr. Chong received her Ph.D. from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Theological and Historical Studies (major) and Liturgical Studies (minor). She is passionate about pastoral ministry. She also writes and teaches on spirituality, theology, and leadership.
