King of Glory, Lord Alone

King of Glory, Lord Alone
by Marty Parks

This is billed as a "Choral Suite" and contains the settings of four choral anthems bound together by narration and underscore. Titles include:

  • King of Glory, Lord Alone (Palm Sunday anthem)

  • In Remembrance (narration and underscore)

  • I Will Remember Thee (Maundy Thursday anthem)

  • The Wondrous Cross (narration and underscore)

  • O Sacred Head, Now Wounded (Good Friday anthem)

  • Risen! (narration and underscore)

  • Jesus Christ Is Risen Today (Easter Sunday anthem)

There is also a demo accompaniment CD available that contains demonstration recordings as well as rehearsal/accompaniment tracks for all songs.

The anthems may be individually used in a given worship service, or the whole work (which lasts about 25 minutes) may be presented as a short cantata on its own or within a worship service. You can also combine Maundy Thursday and Good Friday anthems for services on either of those days. The music is appealing to both choir and congregation alike, and the accompaniment is of moderate difficulty. Optional parts for trumpet, oboe, flute, or violin are included in the book and are appropriate for the average high school musician.

Marty Parks has a long history serving United Methodist churches, and has over 400 compositions and arrangements in print. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

The work is a 2007 publication of Abingdon Press and is available through Cokesbury:
