Herod Waiting, Herod Watching

Words: Andrew Pratt
Music: tune WINTER GRAY, John R. Kleinheksel, Sr.

This new hymn incorporates the "Slaughter of the Innocents" text of Matthew 2:1-18, a difficult passage at Christmas. The text recounts the story of Herod's killing of the male Hebrew babies and of the flight of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. The final stanza ties the suffering of that event to the suffering of children in today's world. The WINTER GRAY tune is a masterful setting of this inspired text.
