Celebrating Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month #2

"Lonely the Boat" (United Methodist Hymnal, 476) is based on Jesus' calming the storm in Matthew 8:23-27 and moves to a personal prayer for anyone feeling tossed upon life’s angry seas -- God is with us, providing help, calm, peace in adversity.

Author Helen Kim (1899-1970) was born in Korea and served as a Methodist educator and leader, delegate to the United Nations, YWCA, Red Cross, International Missionary Council, World Council of Churches, and other international and ecumenical organizations.

The text was translated by United Methodism’s first Korean American bishop, Hae Jong Kim.
