A Meditation for Trinity Sunday
God of Creation
God of Salvation
God of Wind and Flame!
Changeless God,
Ever-seeking
Ever-reaching
Ever-teaching God
Sovereign God
Prince of Peace
Comforter and Friend
God in three Persons,
Blessed Trinity!
Gathering Meditation
(Based on Isaiah 6:1-8)
It Was a Normal Day
It seemed like a normal day.
Pushed myself out of bed.
Argued with my inner voice,
"Stay home," it said. . .
Wrote a reasonable check for the offering
Drove to church wondering where I'd eat afterward
The choir sang.
People prayed.
It seemed like a normal day.
Then God showed up and wordlessly called my name.
I saw myself as God sees me . . . and wept.
But God touched me,
cleansed me,
and called me.
It was a normal day for God.
Prayer of Confession
(Based on Romans 8:12-17)
All: Lord, hear our prayer.
Listen to the cry of your children clothed in flesh. Our lives are riddled with contradictions. We believe we can say and do what is good and right -- most of the time. We believe we will treat us others right -- as long as they respond likewise.
When people cross us and rile us, we discover how weak our self-control is. When we ignore your guidance, we become like those we despise. We are embarrassed to admit that some of our choices smother the voice of the Holy Spirit. Forgive us Lord, for we don't know what we're doing.
(Silence)
Words of Assurance
One: Hear these words. Jesus Christ lived in frail flesh like we do and understands. Jesus knows our struggles and forgives when we ask. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Many: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
