United Methodist Planters Share Wisdom about Launching Worship
By Paul Nixon
In August, Discipleship Resources released a new book titled Launching a New Worship Community: A Field Guide for the 2020s by Paul Nixon and Craig Gilbert. In this book, more than a dozen United Methodist church planters share their wisdom about how to launch worship. The book represents the work of fourteen authors, each experienced in the successful launching of new worship gatherings.
In thirty-two succinct “how-to” chapters, Launching a New Worship Community will help any team to develop a plan for developing a new place for new people, either within the existing church, post-pandemic or as the team plants a new church. The book can help a church form a punch list for the project, including the significant tasks of community engagement that must precede any new worship launch in today’s world.
The book was written as the COVID-19 crisis unfolded, with awareness that thousands of congregations would be facing the task of rebuilding worship participation in the months and years to come. Out of the disruption of the past two years, many churches are discovering a good opportunity for trying something fresh in worship. This book will help them pursue those new opportunities with attention to all the details required.
Launching a New Worship Community is available online at The Upper Room Bookstore.
For local church leaders who would like to spend some time with the authors processing their plans for developing new worship services, a new learning cohort called Launch Parties starts this fall. Click here to learn more.
