Matching Gifts to Leadership Positions

The workbook "Job Descriptions and Leadership Training in The United Methodist Church: A Leadership Development Guide 2017-20" provides profiles for many of the key leadership roles in local UMC congregations.

In addition to listing responsibilities, getting started suggestions, and helpful relationships and resources, it identifies certain spiritual gifts that will serve a leader well in each position. While identifying spiritual gifts should not be motivated as a recruitment tool to fill church vacancies, it is often helpful in identifying persons who have not held leadership before and may feel energized and more deeply connected to the church when placed in a role that utilizes their gifts.

These downloadable lists are not intended to be a definitive word on who should fill any of these roles. In the context of your local setting, a person with a totally different gift mix may be an excellent fit. Please keep that in mind as you use these lists.
