Our monthly conversations with leading Wesley scholars about the emerging United Methodist Church of the twenty-first century will continue this month on the second Thursday, April 13, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. CDT. Please note, this is a schedule change from our normal first Thursday of the month due to Maundy Thursday.

The structure of the symposium conversation is a series of free live-streamed events using Zoom. Each speaker will consider a core theological distinction that needs to be reappropriated to “serve the present age” and then respond live to your questions.

Throughout this series, we have already heard from:

  • Elaine Heath
  • Graham Cray
  • Steve Harper
  • Brian Russell
  • Martyn Atkins
  • Thomas Oord
  • Jong Chun Park
  • Mark Williamson
  • Robert Johnson

We are officially halfway through this webinar series of conversations and have already enjoyed theological discussions around Wesleyan distinctives to give a framework to Fresh Expressions of church.

Fresh Expressions are new forms of Christian communities that serve the present age. Through Fresh Expressions United Methodist, we are seeking to localize the Great Commandment to “love God and neighbor” (Matt 22:35-40) with the Great Commission “as you go, make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28: 18-20) in the spaces and rhythms where people live. We do this in a time when post-Christendom has brought new challenges; inherited forms of church are no longer connecting with people. Throughout the remainder of the theological symposium, we will continue to explore the essential distinctives of our core Wesleyan theology as they relate to the formation of new Christian communities through Fresh Expressions.

To catch up before our next webinar on April 13 please watch the past conversations which have been recorded and archived in this playlist.
