NASHVILLE, Tenn. Sept. 1, 2020 /Discipleship Ministries/ – The Rev. Junius B. Dotson, General Secretary of Discipleship Ministries, has been elected to serve as Convener of the General Secretaries Table, which is comprised of the chief executives of the 13 boards and general agencies of The United Methodist Church.

Dotson was selected by a unanimous vote of his colleagues on the Table to serve as Convener beginning today (Sept. 1).

The General Secretaries Table seeks to serve as collaborative stewards of the connection, undergirded by each agency’s unique perspective of global mission and ministry.

Dotson is replacing Erin Hawkins, General Secretary of the United Methodist Commission on Religion and Race, who vacated the position of Convener when her 12-year tenure at GCORR recently ended.

“Junius is the right person to lead the General Secretaries Table forward,” Hawkins said. “His commitment to working with leaders across the connection to create and sustain a vibrant future, and his innovative spirit are what we need to travel the road ahead with courage and hope.”

Dotson, who has led Discipleship Ministries since 2016, said he is honored to be selected for the leadership position at the General Secretaries Table.

“Our general secretaries are devoted Christian leaders who genuinely care about the people of The United Methodist Church and work tirelessly to help the denomination carry out our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,” Dotson said.
