Commanded to Love

In Awe of Grace

Maundy Thursday, Year A

Maundy Thursday. Or perhaps you prefer Holy Thursday. Either fits this day. But the title you choose might depend on the emphasis you wish to provide during this act of worship.

Loving God, help us to love as you love. Jesus explained it, then he acted it, by washing the disciples’ feet. He did what others thought was beneath them, which made the lesson even more convicting. May we as your church show your love to one another and our neighbors through visible acts of mercy. May we be willing to plunge our hands into dirty water where we find it, not for our own affirmation but so those we serve may see Jesus. Help us to discover joy in giving our time and money. We ask this for the sake of Jesus Christ, who came not to be served but to serve. Amen. (John 13:1-17, 31b-35)
