Note to the Teacher
Students will dive into the incredible journey of faith and baptism, discovering how embracing life in Christ truly shapes who we are and brings us together as a community.
Kingdom Attire (15 minutes)
Divide students into teams of three or four. Give each team oversized clothes (jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, etc.). One member starts in regular clothes; the goal is to fully dress the team member in oversized clothes as quickly as possible. Team members can use only one hand and must rely on other teammates to help them dress their team member. The first team to fully dress their team member wins.
Option 1: To make it a bit harder, blindfold the team member getting “dressed.” This requires that the team member relies solely on teammates.
Option 2: If you want to make it extra hard, blindfold the team member and require the team to dress that person in a specific order with a time limit.
Read Scripture (5 minutes)
Our scripture reading today may be familiar to you. Take a breath. Ready yourself to imagine your role in the story.
Galatians 3:23-29.
Discussion (15 minutes)
- Paul lists several labels that would have divided the community in Galatia at that time. Are there labels that still seem as if they are used to divide communities today?
- What barriers to unity do we still see in our communities? Are they labels or something more?
- Why do you think Paul emphasizes being “baptized into Christ”?
- What do you think “clothing yourself with Christ” means in daily life? Can you think of anyone who does that well? Who and why?
- If baptism signifies putting on Christ, what should we “take off”?
- How can we support one another in fully embodying Christ’s vision for unity?
Activity and Discussion (20 minutes)
Take this lesson to the next level by getting students’ hands and imaginations involved. We’ll take a moment to think about how we can “put on” Christ in our everyday lives.
Hand out some large sheets of paper along with magazines, markers, and a bunch of printed words and images. Ask students to make a “Spiritual Wardrobe Collage.” This will be a colorful mix of images, words, and symbols that show what it means to be dressed in Christ. Tell them to feel free to include stuff like love, kindness, patience, community, faith, helping others, prayer, and so on. Let their imaginations run wild! On the back of their collages, ask them to write or draw what they need to “take off”—fear, selfishness, anger, or jealousy. Once they have finished, invite students to share bits about their collages as they are comfortable.
Points for discussion:
- How can we remind ourselves each day that we're putting on Christ?
- What's one small thing we can do this week to show we're changing?
Final Thought: Transformation takes time, just like getting dressed. But the awesome part? We're not in this alone—Christ is helping us, guiding us, and sticking by us every step of the way.
