Fresh Expressions Seminary is a free, open-access learning community that equips leaders across the church to reimagine what it means to be the church in a changing world. Each month, we welcome leading theologians, pastors, and practitioners who are helping shape the blended ecology of the church. Our goal is to form leaders in the theology, spiritual depth, and practical tools needed for this moment.

Since its launch in 2024, Fresh Expressions Seminary (presented by Fresh Expressions United Methodist at Path1) has featured voices such as Bishop Kenneth Carter, Dr. Michael Beck, and Rev. Travis Smith, offering lectures and open learning pathways to help clergy and laity engage in meaningful, Spirit-led innovation. These sessions are free and available online for anyone seeking formation in post-Christendom mission, adventuring leadership, and the missional future of the church.

We are honored to welcome Rev. Dr. Michael Moynagh as our guest lecturer for the October 2025 session. A theologian, researcher, and long-time architect of the Fresh Expressions movement in the United Kingdom, Dr. Moynagh has played a foundational role in the development of mixed-ecology thinking and missional innovation over the past two decades. Based in Oxford, he has worked with the Church of England and Fresh Expressions UK to support the emergence of thousands of new contextual churches that meet in cafés, libraries, gyms, parks, pubs, and other everyday places.

Rev. Dr. Moynagh’s contribution has been both theological and deeply practical. He is the author of more than a dozen books, including Being Church, Doing Life, Church for Every Context, and his most recent publication, Through the Looking Glass of Generosity. His writing has helped shape the global conversation around ecclesiology, evangelism, and contextual mission, particularly in his call to honor the creativity and callings of laypeople as spiritual innovators within their own communities.

In this month’s lecture, Dr. Moynagh will draw from his most recent research and fieldwork to introduce Soulspace, a flexible, invitational model of Christian formation that supports those who consider themselves spiritual but not religious. Developed as a gentle on-ramp to worship for people with little or no church background, Soulspace offers a new tool for spiritual engagement in libraries, laundromats, food ministries, parish halls, and more. The deeper conversation he brings will speak to broader questions about how the church can cultivate sacred spaces in secular places and what it means to walk alongside spiritual seekers in today’s cultural context.

This lecture is an opportunity to learn from one of the most respected and experienced voices in the Fresh Expressions movement. Whether you are starting something new, helping re-mission a traditional congregation, or simply exploring the future of faith in your community, Dr. Moynagh’s insights will offer theological grounding, practical wisdom, and Spirit-filled imagination for the road ahead.

The live lecture will take place on Wednesday, October 30, at 5:30 p.m., Central Time. Registration is open to all.
