This holy and precious season begins in the dark. We gather on Christmas Eve at night, but we bring the light with us. We celebrate the light that comes in quiet, yet significant ways. We’ve come at night to await the dawn. And it comes. Even in times of great darkness, there is a presence of glory; there is a light that shines and shows us the way.
This glory that shines around us and this light that dawns over us is not our possession, however. It is a gift for the entire world. We gather and sing and pray and listen and look, but this light belongs to all, to every race and every nation. It is praised in every language. It is sung with every melody. We bow before the awesomeness of a God who loves the whole world enough to become vulnerable among us, to put on flesh and move into our neighborhood. We give thanks and remember together that “Dawn Breaks.”
