Tisby and Sample will also be joined by Rev. Stephen Handy as they explain Tisby’s ARC of racial justice (awareness, relationships, commitment) and what it means to be on a holistic, lifelong journey toward racial justice as followers of Jesus Christ.
Tisby is the best-selling author of The Color of Compromise and How to Fight Racism. He is a historian of race and religion and the co-founder and CEO of The Witness Inc.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Jemar Tisby is the author of the New York Times bestselling book, The Color of Compromise: The Truth about the Church's Complicity in Racism. His latest book is How to Fight Racism. Tisby has been a co-host of the "Pass the Mic" podcast since its inception seven years ago. His writing has been featured in the Washington Post, The Atlantic, and the New York Times among others. He is a frequent commentator on outlets such as NPR and CNN's New Day program. He speaks nationwide on the topics of racial justice, U.S. history, and Christianity. Tisby earned his PhD in history and he studies race, religion, and social movements in the 20th century. You can follow his work through his newsletter, Footnotes, and on social media at @JemarTisby.
Tex Sample is the Robert B. And Kathleen Rogers Professor Emeritus of Church and Society at The Saint Paul School of Theology where he taught for 32 years. A United Methodist elder, Sample marched from Selma to Montgomery with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. He is an expert on the culture of the working class and an advocate for ministry with under-represented folks. He retired after a long tenure at St. Paul’s School of Theology where he continues to serve on the board. Sample earned his PhD at Boston University and currently pastors a Methodist church in the Kansas City area. He also works as a community organizer with multi-ethnic groups advocating for better pay, benefits, and access to health care for working class and BIPOC.
Stephen Handy is the lead pastor, visionary, strategist, and partnership collaborator at McKendree United Methodist Church in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Handy earned a BA from Dillard University, an MBA from Tennessee State University, an MDiv from Vanderbilt Divinity School, and a DMin from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Handy is the architect of the Downtown Neighborhood Alliance, a group of non-profits, governmental entities, and congregations focused on creating alternatives to the homelessness crisis in downtown Nashville. This group is forming a Community Development Corporation (CDC) to build affordable housing.
