With Joy We Honor Abigail

Based on I Samuel 25:1-42
Recommended Tune: Forest Green CMD
Arranged from The English Hymnal (1906)

With joy we honor Abigail,
wise woman, none surpassed.
When Nabal's men explained his wrath
she know she must act fast.
So she took David sustenance
to keep his men alive.
She said: "Because you trust in God,
my Lord, you will survive."

Then David said to Abigail,
"Bless God who sent me you.
This food has saved our very lives."
She knew his word was true.
She found her husband very drunk
so she did not confide
the news she heard til morning dawned,
and later Nabal died.

When David heard the welcome news,
his heart was filled with awe.
"I would have you become my wife.
I praise our loving God."
We hear no more of Abigail,
and we must now extend
the witness of her gracious life
as we God's cause defend.
