When Waters Roar and Foam

Words by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, 2012
Music: tune, LEONI, Hebrew melody from Sacred Harmony, 1780.
Topics: flood; hurricane; suffering; faith; healing; strength; hope

Carolyn Winfrey Gillette has composed this new hymn, inspired by the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy on the northeast coast of the USA in October 2012. The hymn asks God, in the midst of all the devastation and suffering, to renew our faith. It asks Christ to give healing, strength and hope. It asks the Spirit to teach us how to love.

The hymn is written also for the purpose of encouraging contributions to relief through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
