"Words by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, 2013
Music: tune, O WALY WALY, English folk melody, arr. Dean McIntyre, 2005
This hymn was written in the aftermath of the shooting of Trayvon Martin in Florida and the trial that followed in July 2013. Hymn writer Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, a foster mother for a four-year-old African American boy, asks broader questions regarding racism, guns, violence, fear, sin, guilt and justice. In addition to the hymn, there is included a brief commentary by the author.
