We Cannot Gloat: A Time for Grief

A hymn composed on the occasion of the death of Osama bin Laden
Words by Andrew Pratt, 2011
Music, MELITA, by John B. Dykes, 1823-1876

This hymn was composed by British pastor and hymn writer Andrew Pratt on the day of the announcement of the death of terrorist Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. The challenging words of this text call us to consider our response as Christians amidst the conflicting memories and emotions many may feel. In the end, however we feel, whatever we say and do, we must pledge our lives to the cause of Christ and work for peace. The text is set to the tune MELITA, also known as THE NAVY HYMN.
