John Ridgway Walker is a composer, conductor and clinician. Since 1995 Walker has operated Forest Refuge Music Studio, writing original music and teaching.
Whether writing for choir, orchestra, congregation, or soloist, John is a career musician with a passion for the poetic sweep of a grand musical phrase.
A native son of the Osage Iowa United Methodist church, Johnny has been in service to the church in Latin America his entire adult life as conductor of an ecumenical sacred music society, worship leader, choir master, and instrumentalist in various denominations.
He is also founding conductor of the Dominican National Youth Philharmonic and chairman of 16 international music festivals. His own student choirs, bands, and orchestras have toured widely in South, Central, and North America.
He graduated with a B.A. from Luther College, focused on music, religion, and cultures. He holds an M.A. from the University of Alabama in music education.
He and his wife, Ann, work in Santiago, Chile, and maintain a foothold in their native Midwestern homeland. They rejoice in the lives of their two young-adult children.
