Uplifter Of The Poor, Disciple Dorothy Day
Recommended Tune: Leoni 66.84D, a traditional Hebrew melody.
Uplifter of the poor,
disciple Dorothy Day
showed God's love as she walked each day
the pilgrim way.
She shared her gift of life
with all who were in need,
and worked unceasingly for peace
in word and deed,Through writing, action, prayer
she answered her clear call
to champion persons' right to power
in church and hall.
At times she felt depressed,
yet her great empathy
impelled her to give those oppressed
priority.Her hungry soul was fed
through selfless ministry;
yet for her loneliness she craved
community.
In table fellowship,
with Christ as unseen guest,
she found her sustenance as she
shared food and rest . . .May Dorothy be our guide
as we dare to embrace
her pilgrim way by living love,
kept by God's grace.
May we live more with less
that we each day extend
the gift of caring for the least
till our life's end.
