Lay Planting
Equipping Ordinary People for an Extraordinary Harvest
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were amazed and recognized them as companions of Jesus. - Acts 4:13 (NRSV)
Our time has come to raise up lay planters with passion for the Gospel, compassion for God’s people, and with a boldness to produce a great harvest.
We believe that all persons, whether clergy or laity, have been called by God for specific ministries, for which we want to prepare them. The network training experience should help clarify the learner’s sense of call and solidify the person’s commitment to church planting. The ultimate goal of the curriculum: to equip lay persons with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be United Methodist church planters.
Preview Session One: Our Gift to You!The Lay Missionary Planting Network Curriculum consists of ten sessions with specific purposes that encourage participants to consider how they are called to help plant new United Methodist congregations. The curriculum is based on scripture, basic theology and practice of The United Methodist Church, research and best practices in church planting, and the experience of other United Methodist churches.
