Two popular and highly effective programs now have discount codes specifically for United Methodists.
The first is with Drs. Les and Leslie Parrot for their “Fight Night” simulcast that is live on November 1, 2018, and “on demand” after November 3 (http://www.inciiteevents.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Simulcast-Guide_FightNight-2018.pdf).
This is a wonderful program, a very entertaining presentation of sound relationship skills and conflict management in particular. You may use it at your church as a special “Date Night” event and/or “kick-off” for upcoming marriage education and enrichment offerings. You will need only a computer and internet access to share the program in your setting. Invite other churches in your area to share in the cost, promotion, and recruitment. Invite the public and charge a small fee. The one-time license fee, based on the size of your church, includes all customer service; free promotional material downloads (posters, flyers, banners, and videos), the live or on-demand feed; and technical assistance for your event. Follow-up study materials will also be available. The special $50 discount code (FNUMCSAVE50) for United Methodists is available until July 31, 2018.
Todd Richards, associate pastor of Scioto Ridge UMC in Hilliard, Ohio, reports that his church participated in the Fight Night Simulcast last year. It was well-attended, and the presenters were engaging and funny. Following the event, the church offered a nine-week marriage class based on Dr. John Gottman’s work.
The second discount is from Love Thinks (http://www.lovethinks.com), which offers programs based on the Relationship Attachment Model (RAM) developed by Jon Van Epp. The RAM, which portrays a relationship and the five dynamic bonds that make it up, has been described in How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk (New York: McGraw-Hill, 2007) and in the Pick a Partner and Couple LINKS programs. Love Thinks recently released three online courses for individuals to United Methodists.
The discount applies to three online courses: “Head Meets Heart” for singles (based on How to Avoid Falling in Love with a Jerk; five sessions, each about an hour long), a downloadable workbook, and research sheets. “Rock Solid Marriage” and “Rock Solid Marriage Ready” are similar in content and are based on the Couple LINKS course. They both offer five one-hour sessions and include a downloadable workbook, activity sheets, and a Couple Checkup. Browse http://courses.mylovethinks.com/ for more information.
Love Thinks also recently released a discussion group format course titled “Relationship Goals” with the same content as their other courses, but in a different format. It is available in two different tracks for singles or couples and in Christian and community versions. The six sessions are video based and organized around discussion guides.
