Shepherd, Source of Our Contentment

Words by F. Richard Garland, 2011.

Music: Tune BEECHER by John Zundel, 1870

Alternate tune: NETTLETON from Wyeth's Repository of Sacred Music, Part Second, 1813

This hymn text by F. Richard Garland is a "shepherd hymn." The author writes, "It is rooted in three biblical texts. First, the beloved 23rd Psalm with its rich images of comfort and guidance. Then Matthew 9:35-36, where Jesus has compassion for those who are harassed and helpless, and finally John 10:11-16, where Jesus identifies himself as the good shepherd who guides and cares for the flock."
