Send Your Word, O Lord, Like the Rain

A Bidding Prayer by Brian Wren
With Musical Response
After the Japanese Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear Damage

with the hymn "Send Your Word," words by Yasushige Imakoma, 1965; trans. By Nobuaki Hanaoka, 1983; music, MIKOTOBA, by Shozo Koyama, 1965. United Methodist Hymnal, no. 195.

For the people of Japan, as they struggle to cope
with the disasters of earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear damage:
Holy God, hear our prayer.
Holy God, hear our prayer.

Response: "Send Your Word," stanza 1

For all who grieve the loss of family, friends and colleagues,
or endure the stress of waiting for news --
Holy God, hear our prayer.
Holy God, hear our prayer.

Response: "Send Your Word," stanza 2

For all who have lost their home, or their livelihood;
For all who are injured or traumatized;
For people risking life and health as they work to contain the radiation,
and for ourselves, that we may be moved to compassion,
Holy God, hear our prayer.
Holy God, hear our prayer.

Response: "Send Your Word," stanza 3

Send your healing power of love.
We long for your new world.
Holy God, hear our prayer.
Holy God, hear our prayer. Amen
