The Seven Last Words of Jesus are a frequently included part of Good Friday services across a variety of Christian traditions. In this hymn, Fred Crider has incorporated all of Jesus' recorded statements on the cross into a song of praise for the mystery of Jesus' crucifixion, which ultimately led to the defeat of sin and death in the resurrection. The notable pairing of text and tune calls the congregation to sing in praise and lament on this paradoxical day.
