Resources for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church
The 2000 General Conference of The United Methodist Church adopted the following resolution:
Whereas, many societies are intolerant of religious people, andThe International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP)is a global time of intercession for persecuted Christians worldwide. Its primary focus is the work of intercessory prayer and citizen action on behalf of persecuted communities of the Christian faith. The international organization has designated Sunday, November 13, 2011, for this observance. In The United Methodist Church, each annual conference may determine its own date.

Whereas, according to the U.S. State Department, the governments of over 60 nations around the world condone the persecution of Christians; and
Whereas, the people called Methodist have traditionally taken the lead in opposing injustice, intolerance, and bigotry; and
Whereas, Methodists believe in the power of prayer,
Therefore, be it resolved, that the United Methodist congregations observe an International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.
Be it further resolved that, through our earnest prayers, we may grow in our sense of unity with Christians around the world and become more aware of the needs of our brothers and sisters who suffer because of their Christian faith.
We also encourage prayer for the souls of the oppressors, the nations that promote persecution, and those who ignore it.
The IDOP organizationmakes available pages and pages of resources that may be freely downloaded, reproduced, and distributed to help congregations in their observance of this special day.
