Push Out Into The Deep

The author writes about this new hymn based on Luke 5:1-11, "This text was written in response to a sermon by Bishop Peter Weaver at the opening of the New England Annual Conference in June 2008. Bishop Weaver preached from the text of Luke 5:1-11 where Jesus urges the disciples [who had worked all night fishing and caught nothing] to again 'Put out into the deep water and let your net down for a catch.' Noting that the disciples obeyed and were awed by the result, Bishop Weaver urged the Conference: 'Let us dare to push out a little deeper, because God in Christ is there to go with us.'"
