Pastoral Prayer for the Sixth Sunday of Easter, Year A

A Pastoral Prayer for the Sixth Sunday of Easter
Based on John 14:15: "If you love me, you will keep my commandments."

Dear God,

Linking love with obedience is not the thing we do best.
We confess to preferring a teary-eyed sentimental love that makes no demands, requires no allegiance.
But, here you are again, calling us to love and obedience; calling us to a different kind of love -- love that does (or doesn’t do), love that demonstrates itself in style of life, thoughts, emotions, or actions.

Lead us into this kind of love, we pray, so that the world might know that we are your disciples.

Amen.
