Harmonization by W. H. Monk (1866)
Tune: St. Magnus CM
This remarkable new Easter hymn opens with the image of Jesus' death, the dark of Good Friday, and the fleeing of the disciples. Its five stanzas take us through the despair, the silence, the loss of hope and faith that must have marked that first Holy Saturday, and finally to Easter day when "all creation rings again as joy is sung and seen."
