O God, You Call for Justice
Words by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, 2012
Music: tune, AURELIA, by Samuel Sebastian Wesley, 1864
Scripture: Micah 6:8
Topics: justice, hunger, compassion
This new hymn comes out of a day of lobbying in Congress with Bread for the World in support of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Carolyn and her husband, Bruce, are co-pastors of the Limestone Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Delaware, where they regularly work with people who come for assistance with food. One of the Senators who knew Carolyn and the church, joked that he hoped Carolyn would write a hymn for Bread for the World, and this hymn was inspired by that comment and the activities of that day.
