McDaniel, Stan

Stan McDaniel is a career church musician, composer, singer, and conductor. From 2003 to 2011, he served as Minister of Music at Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church in Greenville, NC, as well as an Adjunct Professor of Sacred Music at East Carolina University.

He has been an active member of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and the Worship Arts since the early 1970s, and he was among the first class of diaconal ministers to be consecrated in the Western North Carolina Conference. In 1978, he was asked to direct and produce the West Coast premier of the John Wesley musical, Ride! Ride!, in Los Angeles, working directly with the playright, Alan Thornhill. (In 2009, Stan will direct a revival of the show at Methodist University in North Carolina.)

He holds a doctorate in church music from the University of Southern California, where he was selected outstanding graduate in music for the year 1984. He also holds a masters in choral conducting and vocal performance from the University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill. He has wide experience as a conductor and composer.

In 1999, Stan founded the Westminster Chamber Orchestra, an all-professional ensemble in Spokane, Washington, made up of players from the Spokane Symphony. Dr. McDaniel's compositions include a wide variety of choral music, music for handbells, arrangements for brass ensemble, and orchestra.
