Lear to Become Director of Evangelism Ministries at Discipleship Ministries
Lear’s responsibilities will include equipping congregational leaders in all aspects of evangelism by providing resources, creating and maintaining networks of leaders and serving as a speaker and leader.
"The task of equipping and supporting evangelism leaders in the changing environment of today’s culture includes allowing congregations to break away from static practices of the past and refocus energies beyond the walls of a local church," Norton said. "We a blessed that Heather will be on our staff at Discipleship Ministries."
Lear comes to Discipleship Ministries from after serving as senior pastor at Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Durham, N.C. She previously served as associate pastor at both Highland UMC in Raleigh, N.C., and Englewood UMC in Rocky Mount, N.C.
"My hope is to be able to equip and train church leaders and pastors in new ways to reach people in today's world," Lear said. "I want to build networks between churches and lift up settings where innovative and fruitful ministry is happening, and offer those examples as resources for others."
Lear earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and a master of divinity degree from Duke Divinity School. She currently is in the doctor of ministry program at Garrett-Evangelical Theological School in Evanston, Ill.
In her new position, Lear succeeds Rev. Dr. Kwasi Kena, who is now assistant professor of Christian ministry at Wesley Seminary, Indiana Wesleyan University.
