Joy and Rejoicing (Piano & Organ Duet)

by Joe Corporon

The composer writes of this music: "'Joy and Rejoicing' is a piano/organ duet based on IN DULCI JUBILO and ANTIOCH. It's perfect as a prelude during Advent or on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. There is a section that is very reminiscent of Erik Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1, but using IN DULCI JUBILO as the melody. There is also a quote from the Hallelujah Chorus, and a very short homage to Tchaikovsky (see piano part in mm. 82-83). The two tunes are used separately, and in dueling fashion. Also, throughout the piece the meter changes several times, as does the key. The final battle between D-major and F-major is waged in the final bars."
