United Methodist pastor and hymn writer R. Frederick Crider writes of this hymn: "This new hymn is based on Psalm 8. At Towson UMC's charge conference, I gave our District Superintendent, an African-American woman, 0the Rev. Cynthia Moore-Koikoi, a copy of my hymn collection. Reflecting on this on the way home, I realized that I rarely choose familiar hymn tunes that are sung more often in Black churches as the starting point for my texts. Recalling my service at such a church, I chose one of their favorites ('O Thou In Whose Presence,' #518 UM Hymnal) as the tune."
