The Executive Director, Stakeholder Relationships – Works to fulfill the mission of Discipleship Ministries (DM) by directing the work of the agency in linking appropriately to conferences for the purpose of strengthening intentional discipleship, community engagement, and the creation and promotion of indigenous contextual discipleship resources globally. Initiates and directs the annual Content Creation Process, presented to and approved by the DM Leadership Team, gathering inputs from across the connection. Works with Associate General Secretary of Programming to facilitate appropriate responses, resource creation, and partnerships based on the discipleship needs of the church. Oversees evaluation and research process in order to ensure excellence in all areas of service and accountability to Connectional Table and General Conference.
The successful candidate is a driver of innovation and has an entrepreneurial mindset. They must be able to navigate complex systems and silos, inspire people and teams to work toward achieving our strategic direction, solid theological understanding and practice of discipleship, discipleship systems, evangelism, and relationships building; high functioning capability for interactions with bishops, general secretaries and conference leaders, as well as ability to relate to district superintendents, clergy & laity; ability to listen deeply and process qualitative and quantitative data, translating into understandable, actionable, and measurable responses; proficiency in communication skills – both written and oral; proficiency in presentation skills; demonstrating cultural sensitivity; care for and development of those under supervision; ability to lovingly correct – either directly, through the proper supervisor, or by improving existing systems – in order to improve service to conferences; grounded follower of Jesus, always growing in faith and practice.
Education / Specialized Knowledge / Experience
Master’s Degree or equivalency /Basic understanding of systems theory, corporate and ecclesiology best practices, comprehensive knowledge of The United Methodist Church, its structure, polity, history, doctrine, and practice/ Ten years experience in a local church/conference, five years experience at the Conference, Board, or Agency level.
