Director, Preaching Ministries

Director, Preaching Ministries, (exempt) – Reports to Executive Director, Worship Ministries.

The Director, Preaching Ministries position fulfills the mission of Discipleship Ministries by directing the work of the office of Preaching Ministries by convening strategic conversations, being the broker of knowledge, and creating excellent resources that support leaders (clergy and laity) in their preaching ministries, across all contexts (multicultural, multiracial, multigenerational, etc.).

The successful candidate must demonstrate and inspire a deep passion for making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world; possess a working knowledge of the United Methodist structures, doctrine and polity; possess the capacity to reflect theologically about corporate worship as the primary task of faith communities; demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively while recognizing the needs of persons beyond existing congregational members; possess a profound passion for developing, interpreting, and teaching the historical significance and function of Christian worship; effective preaching practices, congregational development, leadership development, and discipleship systems; possess the ability to describe and embody the enterprise of worship as an essential element in disciple-making; comprehend the interdependence of all worship elements (i.e. sacraments, preaching, music, arts, liturgical movement, visuals, drama, lectionary, the Christian year, creative writing and resource development, congregational participation, attention to special needs, intergenerational and multicultural opportunities, oral and written communication skills; accessible language, technologies, etc.); possess a desire for professional knowledge and continuous improvement; demonstrate a spirit of hospitality, hope, and vision deeply rooted in Christian faith and practice.

Education / Experience

Master’s of Divinity or equivalent in related fields of homiletics or equivalency / Seven to ten years of local church experience in Homiletics.
