Director, Preaching and Worship Resources

The Director, Preaching and Worship Resources – Works to fulfill the mission of Discipleship Ministries (DM) by directing the work of the office of preaching and worship ministries which provides resources, training networks, and events for the development and strengthening of clergy and lay leadership for their task of creating a vital, vibrant church, and making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The successful candidate must demonstrate and inspire a deep passion for making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world; possess a working knowledge of the United Methodist structures, doctrine and polity; possess the capacity to reflect theologically about corporate worship as the primary task of faith communities; demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively while recognizing the needs of persons beyond existing congregational members; possess a profound passion for developing, interpreting, and teaching the historical significance and functions of Christian homiletics and liturgy; to possess the ability to describe and embody the enterprise of preaching and worship as essential elements in disciple-making; comprehend the interdependence of all preaching and worship elements (i.e. sacraments, music, arts, liturgical movement, visuals, drama, lectionary, the Christian year, creative writing and resource development, congregational participation, attention to special needs, intergenerational and multicultural opportunities, oral and written communication skills; accessible language, technologies, etc.); possess a desire for professional knowledge and continuous improvement; demonstrate a spirit of hospitality, hope, and vision deeply rooted in Christian faith and practice.

Education / Specialized Knowledge / Experience

Masters of Divinity in related fields of homiletics and Liturgy/Christian Worship / Effective preaching practices, Christian Corporate Worship development/design, teaching experience, advanced professional and academic knowledge and recognized expertise in diverse preaching and liturgical traditions / Six to seven years of experience in the fields of Homiletics and Liturgy.
