A New Advent of Joy

Words: F. Richard Garland, 2015
Music: Tune, DARWALL'S 148TH, John Darwall, 1770
Lectionary: Second Sunday of Advent, Year C
Scripture: Philippians 1:3-11
Topics: Advent; Incarnation; prepare; love; joy; grace

United Methodist pastor and hymn writer F. Richard Garland begins a series of hymns based on texts from the Letter to the Philippians. This is a welcome addition to the repertoire of hymns especially suited for the Sundays of Advent. With its mention of joy at the start of each stanza, it is also appropriate for the Third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, when joy is a prominent theme.
