Learning to create new ministries for new people. Existing churches can discover ways to reach new population groups by becoming familiar with the “Seven Seasons of Church Planting,” a free resource from New Church Starts (Path 1) at Discipleship Ministries. Path 1 researched the best practices for planting new places for new people, but the same resource can help established churches think through the steps for starting a new ministry. The booklet is available in pdf format and can be downloaded at http://bit.ly/2g81GZ3.

Begin discipleship in your church at baptism. Congregations need to begin forming members as disciples of Jesus Christ when they are children and nurture their development as youth and throughout adulthood. Three new books published by Discipleship Resources are basic resources for helping United Methodist congregations with the disciple-making mission. Growing Everyday Disciples: Covenant Discipleship With Children, Everyday Disciples: Covenant Discipleship With Youth, and Disciples Making Disciples: A Guide for Covenant Discipleship Groups & Class Leaders all draw upon our Wesleyan Methodist heritage and the “method” of Methodism – the class meeting and class leaders. Get them at http://bookstore.upperroom.org/Products/CategoryCenter/DR!WES/wesleyan.aspx.
That’s all this month. 5 more ideas coming your way in January.
