21st Century Africana Liturgy Resources for the Tenth Sunday After Pentecost, Year B

Call to Worship
(Based on Psalm 130) Leader: Out of our depths let us cry to the Lord!

People: For the Lord hears, and the Lord is attentive to our prayers.

Leader: We can stand before the Lord, and the Lord forgets our sin and wrongdoing.

People: Our souls wait for a word of hope from the Lord.

Leader: The morning has come. Our wait is over. Let us receive the presence of the Lord in worship.

Hymn of Praise: 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus (United Methodist Hymnal, 462)

A Litany based on Ephesians 4 and 5
Leader: Come; let us put away all things that divide us and love one another.

People: For we are members of one another. [Ephesians 4:25b, NRSV]

Leader: Come; let us not be divided from one another by gender, race, color, or status.

People: For we are members of one anther.

Leader: Come; let us put away lies, anger, stealing, and corrupt words.

People: For we are members of one another.

Leader: Come; let us put away bitterness, wrath, clamor, and malice.

People: For we are members of one another.

Leader: Come; let us put away uncleanness, idolatry, and deception.

People: For we are members of one another.

Leader: Together let us speak truth, labor together, and do what is good and edifying to the Lord.

People: Let us be imitators of God, walk as the children of God, and love as Christ first loved us.

Leader: Come; let us be the people of God we are called to be.

People: For we are saints, God's chosen people and members of one another.
AMEN.

Benediction
Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to him be glory in the church of Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Based on Ephesians 3:20-21)
