2010 Common Prayer of North and South Korea for Peaceful Reunification
O, God who guides the life of our nation!
On the occasion of the 100th year of Japanese annexation of Korea, the 65th year of the Liberation and the Division, and the 60th year of the Korean War,
We give thanks to you, for you have given hope to our nation in our history, been with us in our suffering and in our liberation from Japan on August 15 (1945), and you have opened us to a new vision.
O, God of forgiveness,
Even though this year should be a turning point for us to make efforts to wash off all that is left from Japanese colonialism, prepare a critical aspect for peace on the peninsula, and accomplish the reunification of North and South Korea, we are, however, not developing the mood of reconciliation and cooperation that has been prepared by the North and South together. Instead we are approaching again mutual blame, mistrust, hostility, and confrontation. We ask your forgiveness for those of us who have not lived as your children pursuing peace.
God who guides our nation to peace and reunification!
We pray that this peninsula be a peace zone with a peace system without war threat on the Korean peninsula. We pray that the world be without nuclear weapons.
We pray that mistrust and confrontation between the North and the South should die down, mutual trust should be built through reconciliation, cooperation, and exchange. The June 15 unification mood that we all had enjoyed should be revived in full blossom, and the atmosphere of unification should wind its way through all this peninsula.
O, God who calls the church as God's worker!
Guide us, churches of the North and the South, to pray continuously for national reconciliation, peace, and reunification.
Lead us, churches of the North and the South, to be in the lead to overcome those minds of hostility and confrontation.
In order to make God's justice flow like a stream over the world and the spirit of peace spread out upon the earth, guide us to take the lead in breaking down the wall between the North and the South.
Guide us to commit ourselves to fulfill our mission, praying for peace and the reunification of Korea. Glory be to our Lord who come as the light of the world.
