"Touch the Earth Lightly," Verses 3-4

Silence

Invitation
You who truly and earnestly repent of your sins,
and are in love and charity with your neighbors,
and intend to lead a new life following the commandments of God
and walking in God's holy ways:
draw near in faith,
acknowledge your need,
and make your humble confession before God.

Confession and Pardon
When the world gets us wrong,
set us right.

When we know what we've forgotten
but can't find what we've lost...
Calm our fear. Call us to mind.

We count less than we thought.
We're worth more than we imagine.
You are our maker, our savior, our friend.
You are the light, the truth, and Love's Way.

(silent prayers of confession)

This Source of light?
Can't use it up.
This Core of truth?
Can't wear it out.

This Force of love?
There's no making do; we can't do without.

By God's grace we're all forgiven.
God forgives us.
By Jesus' power we're all set free.
Jesus sets us free. Hallelujah!

Right Hand of Fellowship

All greet one another in the name of Christ while singing

"We're Marching to Zion" (Public Domain)

Come, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known;
Join in a song with sweet accord,
Join in a song with sweet accord
And thus surround the throne,
And thus surround the throne.

Refrain

We're marching to Zion,
Beautiful, beautiful Zion;
We're marching upward to Zion,
The beautiful city of God.

The sorrows of the mind
Be banished from the place;
Religion never was designed
Religion never was designed,
To make our pleasures less,
To make our pleasures less.

Refrain

Great Thanksgiving

Dearly beloved, who do you belong to?
We belong to God.

Where are you from?
We come from
(congregation calls out the places)

Where are you going?
Heading for heaven.
We're on the Way.

Then lift up your hearts!
Our hearts with rapture thrill!
The Heart beats
the Heart beats
the steadiness of God
the Heart beats
God is walking with us
the Heart beats

God is with us through everything
the Heart beats
staying with us all the time
the Heart beats
and that beating heart
the Heart beats
has never failed us yet
the Heart beats

Our hearts with rapture thrill.
Our hearts with rapture thrill.

Here in the midst of cabbage palm and saw palmetto,
and mangroves black, white and red,
we assemble as your family --
mas and pas, grandfolk and kids,
cousins and neighbors, long lost kin...
We are your people and you are our God.
Your love makes us friends.
Your blood makes us kin.

And so we sing, (Tune: Candler)

Salvation glory and power to God
for Jesus our redeemer reigns.
The mountains, hills, and valleys sing
as angels, saints, and heavens proclaim:
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Halle, Halle, Hallelujah.
Salvation glory and power to God
for Jesus our redeemer reigns.

Once you were a stranger who just wandered in;
you didn't mind to show up for supper
and sit a spell.

Jesus, Holy child,
you come and see us in mills and mines,
forests and factories,
fields and farms,
plants and pastures.

Gentle Jesus, meek and wild,
You share our load and bear our burdens,
You break our addictions and free us from sin.
You straighten us up and make us whole.
Your blood washes us clean;
your life redeems us all.

We remember the night when Jesus gave himself to us....
We remember, we will never forget.
He took bread and gave thanks,
We remember, we will never forget.
He gave it to his friends:
This is my body.
Eat. Share. Remember.
We remember, we will never forget.
He took the cup and gave thanks,
We remember, we will never forget.
He gave it to his friends:
this is my blood.
Drink. Live. Remember.
Oh, how we remember!

Breathe, Holy Ghost!
Breathe, Holy Ghost!
Breathe on this bread and cup.
Breathe on us gathered here,
those who have had to leave,
and all in your keeping.

Breathe, Holy Ghost.
Breathe on scarred hilltops, black water, wounded earth.
Breathe on polluted waterways, and native species endangered.
Breathe on the beaten, broken and addicted,
those tortured by debt, tried by doubt, tempted by death.
Breathe peace, Jesus.

Breathe, Holy Ghost.

And so we sing...
Sing Doxology (Text: Old Hundredth)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise God, all creatures here below.
Praise God above, ye heavenly host.
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer (using debts/debtors)

Breaking the Bread
From the grain of the land, this bread is gathered up.
Jesus is the true Bread.
From the fruit of the vine, this cup is filled.
Jesus is the true Vine.

All is ready.
Come and dine.

Sharing Bread and Cup

Post Communion Prayer/Song
(Tune "Promised Land" in 6/8)

On Jordan's stormy banks I stand
and cast a wistful eye
to Canaan's fair and happy land
where my possessions lie.

We're bound for the promised land,
we're bound for the promised land.
O who will come and go with me.
we're bound for the promised land.
