The monthly webinar series, Engaging the Community for Social Transformation, will take place Thursday, November 18, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, CDT. Our guest will be Rev. Piula Ala’ilima, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is involved in leadership in “Acts of Repentance” on the jurisdictional, conference, and district levels. He will talk about the work that is taking place in standing with the native peoples in Hawaii and in protecting the sacred land, in particular the Sacred Mountain, Mauna Kea, as attempts to install the 30 Meter Telescope are made.

Participants in the webinar will talk about colonization, United Methodist history related to Hawaii, what decolonization of the church means, and how the local church can begin to live into decolonization as we continue to seek ways to engage the community. We at Path 1 and Discipleship Ministries know that it will be a great conversation filled with powerful stories of repentance and solidarity. We hope that you will be able to join us as we continue to seek to live into the vision of the beloved community.
