Greater Things: Unleashing Christian Innovation copy
By Michael Beck
Desperation is the seedbed of innovation. The last several years seem like an unending series of disruptions to life as we have known it. Amid the challenges, churches of all shapes and sizes started to become more innovative – discovering sparks and signs of new life.
What is different – or should be different – about Christian innovation? Len Wilson, author of Greater Things: The Work of the New Creation, will explore two critical benefits of doing ministry in today’s climate in a webinar on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at 5:30 p.m., Central Time. He will offer:
- a thought-provoking exploration of the theological and philosophical history of innovation
- a new vision for how Christians can be creators of change in the world – the kind of innovation our culture desperately needs.
At Fresh Expressions United Methodist, we believe the ultimate act of innovation is the formation of new Christian communities. Jesus founded and is forming the church as his ongoing incarnation in the world. The church can be a key instrument of this new creation work.
The key to a thriving future lies in every single follower of Jesus cultivating new Christian communities among friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers in the everyday spaces where life happens.
We often think about the church in terms of durability. Can we build something that will last? This is the wrong question. “Can we form disciples who will multiply?” is the true question. The church has survived for two thousand years not by staying the same, but by finding unique enculturation among every people, culture, and place across the world. This will be true in the globalized network society as well. The uniqueness of these innovative faith communities will be as diverse as the people who cultivate them, as they proliferate across both onsite and online spaces.
Pulling from the stories of great Christian changemakers throughout history, Len Wilson will introduce a six-step blueprint for Spirit-fueled innovation, helping you discover how you can be part of creating and cultivating authentic flourishing for all, now and for eternity.
