Global Launchpad Training Set for Summer 2021

By Paul Nixon

Article launch pad

Launchpad Church Planter training was introduced ten years ago in the Northeastern and Western Jurisdictions. Over time, as planting conditions proved more difficult, the training was introduced in other areas of the United States. Launchpad was created as a next-generation version of planter training, built around the assumptions that new churches may not grow as fast or as large in a post-Christendom context. The training also assumed an increasing variety of planting strategies. It shifted from prescribing a universal, linear list of planter activities to offering a framework of planting seasons, with each planting team expected to translate the varied seasons into its own context and into a distinctive church development timeline.

This summer, Discipleship Ministries is offering an online version of Launchpad on five consecutive Mondays, starting July 12. In this newest edition of Launchpad, we will cover the same general topics as before, but with the additional assumption that every church plant will have a robust digital component in addition to in-person gathering. Path 1 team members Paul Nixon and Bener Agtarap will lead the training.

Each Monday, the training lasts two and one-half hours, with some homework required of the planting team between sessions. The sessions run from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., CDT. We will be welcoming participants from Alaska, Hawaii, the UK, and Western Africa/Continental Europe. All instruction will be offered in English. The registration cost per church planting team is $295.00 within the United States. Discount codes will be provided to international participants based on their financial context.

Church planter training, popularly called boot camp, is an essential practice at the start of any new church project, along with the assignment of a planting coach. We encourage appointive authorities throughout Methodism to see to it that the people they are sending out to plant new ministries are adequately equipped for this important work.
