Building Beloved Community July Session Focuses on Work with Indigenous Peoples

By Bryan Tener

Building Beloved Community Article

Our monthly webinar series, “Building the Beloved Community,” will continue on Thursday, July 21 at 11 a.m. CDT with guest, Rev. Dr. David Wilson, Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference (OIMC) Assistant to the Bishop. Dr. Wilson works in leading the OIMC in building key partnerships between the annual conference and local and national organizations and tribal nations. He also works to create avenues for local OIMC churches and community organizations to partner together.

From working to ensure the voices of Indigenous people are heard through organizing voter registration campaigns, to working for access to health care for Indigenous peoples, to standing in solidarity with those who seek to protect their tribal land and water and maintain sovereignty, Dr. Wilson’s leadership and work offers wisdom and insight into engaging with diverse peoples, working to build the beloved community, and seeking justice by offering compassion while trying to make systemic changes that lead to long-term sustainability.

Dr. Wilson will talk about the importance of the voter registration movement, the challenges faced along with the obstacles that are sometimes put in the way when it comes to registering, and what it means to have a voice and to make it heard. We’ll also walk through building partnerships with diverse peoples and the challenges and exciting life-giving things that take place through partnering with others. We will talk about how local churches can begin to learn about, support, and work toward relationships with indigenous people in the OIMC and in their own community.

I hope that you will be able to join us for this exciting conversation. If you have any questions or want to know more, feel free to contact Bryan Tener at [email protected].
