"Pues Si Vivimos" ("When We Are Living"), United Methodist Hymnal, 356 The anonymous first stanza of "Pues Si Vivimos," based on Romans 14:7-8, was collected when sung by a Mexican woman at La Trinidad UMC in Los Angeles in 1980. It first appeared in the 1983 publication Celebremos II, translated into English by Elise Eslinger.

e mi tía-abuela aprendí, siendo niña, una copla (canto popular) que decía: ‹‹Cantando lo encontré, cantando lo perdí; como no sé llorar, cantando he de morir››. Creo que la copla refleja muy bien el apego a la música del pueblo hispano. Como en la copla, la persona hispana lleva la música por dentro y con ella canta en todo momento. Con el canto alabamos a Dios, contamos nuestras cuitas, y expresamos nuestras más profundas emociones desde el dolor, ira o desesperación, hasta el amor. La música es a la adoración hispana como el aguaa la tierra o como el aire a los seres humanos.
